Guardians fear that their adolescent wards may get trapped in drug/alcohol abuse because it has been observed that use of drugs has increased especially among youth. Adolescence (age group 12-18 years) is the period which is accompanied by several biological and behavioural changes. This is also a very vulnerable phase of mental and psychological development of an individual. Curiosity, need for adventure and excitement, experimentation and exposure to media are some common causes that motivate the youngsters towards drug and alcohol abuse. Of late, stress (to excel in academics or examination) has played major role in persuading youngsters to try alcohol and drugs.
