A son persuades his father to replace his old mobile phone with the latest model launched in the market. He also shares the latest features it has and explains how it can be of a help to him in the modern technological world. Father is reluctant in buying a new one and tries to explain about its environmental impact. How do you think, the biologist father has tried to convince his son? Justify the arguments of father and son both, by mentioning positive aspects of the behaviour displayed by both of them in the situation concerned (three each)

A son has tried to convince his father to purchase a latest smart phone. The positive aspects of his conversation with father can be described as :
 
(i) Mobile phones with latest technology have numerous apps for trip tickets booking, money transfer, send out emails, etc., that save our time. It is also used for selection of jobs.
 
(ii) These phones are very helpful in emergency situations. If we lose our way or get stuck in bad weather, GPS technology in mobile phone enables us to pinpoint ourself on a map and suggest the direction to reach our destination.
 
(iii) Latest smartphones are also useful in our studies such as look up dictionary, e-books and find out many useful source of reference on internet.
 
His father is reluctant in buying a new phone and tries to explain about its environmental impacts. The positive aspects of the father’s behaviour could be justified by the reasons given below:
 
(i) Mobile phones are categorised as e-waste. E-waste or electronic waste is growing because the useful lifespan for devices and products is getting shorter. Consumer demand for the next best model is increasing the e-waste in environment. Mobile phones and its batteries contain hazardous elements like lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic that can cause real and lasting damage to our environment and public health.
 
(ii) The latest smart phones, use large amount of electricity while charging. Therefore, we are wasting our natural resources by using phones with lot of features.
 
(iii)The electro-radiomagnetic waves produced by such latest phones are supposed to gradually affect the health of humans and certain other species, especially birds.
